Movie Explorer App Reviews
Very good
This new version is very good with recognition of titles in french. Thank you!
Awesome app!!!
I was looking for something like this for years! All my movie files collection is now in order. including foregn titles. Fast and easy! Must have.
The application has a excellent visual presentation and perform very well at identifying Movies and TV Shows (99.9%). The Application has great potential in becomming the main application to catalog and Explore your Movies and TV Shows and provide a direct access to your Media Player. In my opinion an excellent work in progress and I am looking forward to their next revision.
Great App
I love this app, now i can organize al my movies, Please add an ‘Open With’ Option and also an option to hide the sidebars :)
I’ve been looking for a way to index and catalog old classic movies that are on hard drives. This app does the trick. Now a single click gets IMDB-style info without cumbersome copy-paste to a web browser.
I have a good size list of movies I’ve fallen behind on in my list and have been looking for an easier way to sift through them to pick one to watch. This app provides a very nifty feature to automatically add my movie files and sort them into a beautiful catalog with covers. One complaint is that when clicking around, the cover photo in the inspector takes a while to refresh and it continues to display the cover for the previous selection. A few suggestions: I’m not sure where the ratings for the movies are being pulled from, but it would be nice to have them match the IMDb ratings, and also adding Rotten Tomatoes ratings would be nice. I don’t know if it would be possible, but it would be nice to be able to catalog TV shows as well. Breaking them down into seasons and episodes would be even nicer. It would also be great if we could resize the cover thumbnails to fit as many of them as we’d like in our screen. On my MBP, no matter how I resize the sidebar and the inspector, I can only display 3 covers per row and it leaves a huge area of blank space.
After struggling to overcome the clumsy file loading methods in other Movie Catalogz and running into size limitations on still others I finally found a fast simple app that does it all by harnessing the power of the computer. And that’s what it’s all about. It’s like my dreams have come true. Kudos to Ron Elemans
I was looking for a way to categorize all my movies by genre and see their cover art. After a few quick Google searches, I stumbled across this app. So, I decided to give it a try. I was more than pleased. This app does everything that was looking for and more. I honestly can’t believe that it’s free. I highly recomend this app to anyone who is looking for a way to organize and/or view their many movie files.
I did a test with my home movies to see what It thinks the movie files were. These are my results. Scanned Home Movie files well It found 464 HOME MOVIES out of 497 movies Metada for my home movies - All Wrong posters displayed Generes it decided to categorize - All wrong Characters it selected - All wrong Director it selected - All Wrong SUMMARY— There are non working parts to this app. All movies are not found during a scan and Clicking on the side bar for Generes are in correct . I have no foreign movies inmyhome movies or countries other than the USA. This app has good ideas but does not work for OSX 10.1.4 Yosemite.
I have over 2000 movies in several directories. This app provides data that is organized intelligently and is not available from any other source. I tried to buy the TV add on but received a message that it couldn’t open in the app store. If the publisher can fix this I will be glad to buy the TV upgrade.
Pretty Good
Needs: Sort by Director Fix/change movie data. A couple of my files are incorrectly displayed. Otherwise, thanks for organizing!
Good
But I wish I could edit the metadata by myself. Because some films can’t find the data online.
Very Good
I'v been searching for a program like this for some time; one which will work off my NAS; this one seems to be the best yet.
Print Catalog
I would give you a 5 star if I could PRINT the catalog. You want/need a hard copy sometimes.
Some disappointing problems in this app
Tried the Pro 14 day trial. Adding your own CDs is a real problem. Scanning doesn’t work well in FaceTime camera. Matching discs to titles is spotty for documentaries and multi-disc shows. Hard to add your own discs with their own barcode if it doesn’t match IMDB. Should be an override so you can still keep track of your own discs. I will not be buying the Pro version if it’s this buggy. Here should be a way to override or link to Amazon or another source or data.
The Best program for Mac platform, hands down.
impressive
The Best Movie Management Solution Anywhere
Everything in this app is exactly as it should be. Each element is as functionally intuitive as it is beautiful. Streamlined but powerful. Why can't all software be like this? Only regret is I didn't find it sooner. Thank you to the developer(s).
Fantastic app, needs a few key features (updated)
Amazing app, subscribed to pro. Thanks for excellent work developing it. Please, please, please add the following features: ⚛ Refresh all locations with a single click -- queue them up, scan them one by one, whatever the app needs to do. I have 9 locations, 12000 files, and it is a pain to press refresh, wait 15 minutes or so, press refresh on the next drive, and over and over again -- every day! ⚛ Scheduled auto-refresh of library locations ⚛ Please move the database to iCloud so that we can have two or more instances of the app running across different computers. I understand this doesn't work well for local library locations, but it would work for anyone who shares their libraries and accesses them via /Volumes/xxxx ⚛ Ability to add queries as custom genres and then to be able to put them in the genre list on the sidebar (eg. query: "genre contains: romance genre contains: comedy", save as cusom genre: romantic comedy, add to sidebar as a genre" ⚛ Please move the export templates out of the export-config plist so I can modify them. Perhaps an option to allow overrides in the advanced menu. Just an option to point to a folder and to override the config plist if there is our own one in there. Don't need to document it, just free it from its .app folder prison please! :-D ⚛ TMDB ratings are very low quality. Many of us have the 100,000 per day api keys for OMDB and would appreciate being able to put our key into Movie Explorer and have the app replace ratings with more comprehensive ones from IMDB as provided through an OMDB link. Have code to make the link if that helps! ⚛ "Show In Finder" in as many context menus as is appropriate please! ⚛ Ability to show and hide various fields that I don't care about in the side panels, like'specifications' or 'crew' or 'history'. ⚛ Ability to change font size in the side panel. Right now it's either small or small. ⚛ Right click on a movie poster should show a quick star rating option "★★★★★" -- switching between tabs in the side panels to find the rating one is time consuming. ⚛ Hidden movies - Right click on a movie to keep it in the database but hide it from the main view, especially the default non-query list like "all movies". I like a big movie collection - I personally don't like horror, but want to keep it in case someone else wants to watch one. In that rare event they can browse them in a 'hidden' list or perhaps in a genre list with the option to show or hide hidden movies. ⚛ I run the app on a 2012 mac mini. The app is very fast and smooth when all it is doing is scrolling through movies, but when refreshing locations it slows to a crawl. Perhaps the app could detect that and adjust the refresh rate accordingly. got lots more ideas! robert
wonderful app
This app is brilliant, you can sort your movie partion and enjoy as much as you can
Great Free App
This App does everything it says it will do, and it does it well. The movies are layed out beautifully and it pulls all the correct information about 95% of the time including HD artwork (and it's pretty painless to fix the few mistakes). I also like that you can get info on each movie and search for additional movies in your collection with the same actors/actresses/etc. Also, you can choose different artwork for the movie if you want. What would push me towards buying the Pro version is the abilty to sort my movies by a name of my choosing (kind of like Plex does). Right now movies like the Planet of The Apes Trilogy and Star Wars and Jurrasic Park/World are spread throughout the app. I want the ability to be able to have a 'sort name' or something to that effect that would let me just label them Star Wars 1, 2, 3 etc. so they'd be layed out next to each other and in order while still actually displaying the official movie names on the app browser itself.
REALLY GREAT Software, Disappointing Greed
This software is really phenomenol at what it does. Well thought out and nice user interface. Huge problem is that they want to charge you monthly or yearly to use the software. This is not a service! It's software. Let the consumer buy the software and use it, not charge them a rolling & continuous fee to use it. No thanks. UPDATE: After response from the developer, I misunderstood the options in the "In-app Purchases" Menu. It appeared that the only options were a free 14 day trial, or monthly or annual subscriptions. Those options are for the PRO version only. The stand alone version without the pro features is actuall free to use and really good software.
Excellent Application
Truly a dream come true in terms of movie/TV management software. Defintiely has a few bugs, but the response team are quick to respond to issues/feedback, and requently update the program. Fully recommend
Best option I’ve found
to manage movies. Puts iTunes to shame being able to handle multiple file types. Does a good job finding the metadata. Although many times one does have to go to the file and type M and manually find/confirm data. Do get bad matches with folders that have a sample video. The previous update speeded the app up nicely. Have only purchased one in app purchase, TV. Quite pleased.
Best library so far
This app makes everything so easier with file management and database, file information including audios, video formats... you name it.
The subscription is fine, but you cannot took away what's purchased before
You can add subscription to features after you change the model. But cannot just move away what's purchased.
99% what I've been looking for
I've been using Movie Explorer for about two years now. I love it so much that I'm writing a review and I never write reviews for apps. I have over 5000 movies and 2000 TV episodes saved to hard drives. Movie Explorer catalogs them extremely well. The only negative is that it is very difficult (and sometimes impossible) to catalog anything not listed in the OMDB. But that flaw is really a flaw of OMDB and Movie Explorer's relianceon OMDB for metadata.
SUPERB MOVIE ORGANIZER
EXCELLENT! FAST, SIMPLE! & SUPERB LOOKING! AAAAAA+++++++ VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
incredibly Slick
Does exactly what the avid movie watcher with internet and a VPN would want from an organizer app. I wish I used this years ago. I would have ended up watch a lot more films rather than leaving them unwatched after forgetting what they are and why I downloaded in the first place. Stellar app. One of my top finds this year. I purchased the TV upgrade because price was more than fair for this exceptional app which is free if you don’t want the TV functionality. As you can probably tell I’m very happy !!
I Wish I found this app first.
I wasted a lot of time on other apps that were clumsy, buggy and hard to understand. This app is a dream come true! On my first day I managed to load about 900 movies and TV shows. Much joy here! Update: I’ve had Movie Explorerfor a while now and all I can say is: Most Excellent! I’ve managed to quite easily catalog my movie and TV collection of almost 24 Terrabytes into Movie Explorer and it runs just as slick and as fast as when I had only a few hundred movies entered. I’m planning on adding another 8 Terrabyte disk this month and I’m confident Movie Explorer will handle it no problem. Note to Developer: Is there any chance you could create a companion program called: Music Explorer? That would bring much joy. Kim
Outstanding
This program is the best in its class. It works great and it easy to use. The only thing that I think it needs is a function that can create an .html export of the database so that you can export it to your computer or apple tv. This way you can watch movies directly from the apple tv using the created .html database
Great app…a few suggestions.
This is exactly the type of app I’ve been searching for. However, I do have a few suggestions. Mainly, we as users need to be able to fix issues with individual files that the app misidentifies, or can’t identify at all. How about adding an “unknown” tab to catch all of the files that the app has trouble identifying? As it stands, some files can’t be identified, and the app simply ignores them, and they don’t appear in your library at all. Some films get misidentified with incorrect titles and data. Others get categorized as duplicates, although they are not. For instance, the app thinks that The Mummy (2017) is a duplicate of The Mummy (1999), The Circle (2017) is a duplicate of Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), etc. The ability to highlight these individual problem files and designate them as miscategorized is a must. Add a function to select from a list of similar titles to pinpoint the correct one, similar to what Subler does when adding metadata. Lastly, the app allows you to scroll through a variety of alternate posters for each film by clicking on the gallery, yet there’s no way to designate a particular poster image as the one you want to be displayed in your library. That would also be a welcome addition. With these changes, I’d happily upgrade to the paid version. Update: Thanks so much for the tips! That’s helped a lot in organizing my files. One last question: Is there a way to edit the genre tags? I have some films showing up under certain genre tabs that shouldn’t be there, and others not showing up that should be there. Thanks, again.
Best app for Movie Librabry
I love this app, let you organize you´r movie library and give you ratings, trailers and names of the cast. Very simple to use. I love a Android version for my android tv.
better than Plex or Kodi for local content!!!!
Exactly what i was looking for and its free!! best app out there for local content movie managing with poster and imdb info
waiting such app for long time
great and easy to use app. only missing thing is more customization. i would like to change theme for movie cover layouts, ratings should have been actual numbers imdb:6.4 for example instead of small stars or at least being able to change such stuff. keep up great work !
Amazing for what it does, but that is very limited
This app is amazing at its ability to scan a folder of files and pull fairly correct data from the internet for those files. However, it doesn’t allow you to make your own folders, tags, or edit any data in-app (you have to edit the online database it pulls data from). Nor will it organize your files for you. But what it does it does fast and the interface is nice and clean.
Excellant
Best app to organize large collection of movies. Giving 4 stars because TV addon is expensive. Also ratings for some movies like sunshine are wrong. Developer please fix it and reduce addon price.
UPDATE 4/3/17 WORKING NOW
IT scanned my movie database and found most of the movies but it also created it’s own movie title that i’ve never heard of “Pomponieres du lle Reich, Les”, with no Icon, just a black space???? I like this app, but instructions does not tell me if Movie E. is duplicating the movie files or just creating images of the video. I have my video files stored on an NAS WD PR2100 drive. I do not wish to fill my laptop with these files. Where are the scanned Movie Explorer files stored? One feature i would like to see is the ability to store a listing of my files on my iPad or IPod so that when searching for dvd’s in a video store, I want to avoid purchasing duplicates to add to my library. Is it do-able?
One of the BEST I have reviewed as an expert.
Having reviewed the top movie catalog apps, this FREE one is by far the smoothest and simple to use. I would hope a PRO version is in the works for more controls, but this simple style raises the bar for Coollector, Collectorz, and others. GinoJazz
Sort via filename
This app is great but it has minor glitches. The major one is lacking the ability to sort using actual filename. This is critical to find what is actual display. For example I have 300 movies store in a drive and it keeps telling me I had 302 in the movie tab but it clearly shows 300 in the files tab! I deleted the location and redid the scan and now it tell me I had 209 movies in the movie tab but clearly shows 300 in the file tab. I could manually add if I know which filename is missing coz using the actual movie’s names is very difficult. For example, there is no difference between a movie called “the verdict” and a movie named “verdict.” Please consider to allow sorting using filename coz the filenames are already in the database. Thanks.
FREE ?????
This app is exactlyyyyyyyyy what i was looking for and it’s free !!!!!!!! Thank you sooooo much
